About

From its ancient Chinese origins, porcelain had maintained its legendary appeal. Its name alone evokes past explorations and discoveries of new lands through new trading routes. Quality porcelain is subject to precise dosages of such minerals as quartz, feldspar and clay and it was the French King Louis XV’s search for this “white gold” which led him to the region of Limoges. For more than a hundred years, the prestigious Bernardaud porcelain has becomes synonymous with Limoges where it founded the factory which still stands there today.. As the leading manufacturer and exporter of porcelain in France, Bernardaud’s history is steeped in the Limousin region where the very rare clay, by the name of kaolin, was found in 1768. The discovery of kaolin enabled the production of the exquisite white porcelain

which earned the firm its world-wide reputation. Since 1863, the techniques which helped produced a dinnerware known to the far corners of the globe for its elegance, durability, translucency and purity have been transmitted from father to son. Today, Bernardaud has earned its place amongst an elite group of world-renowned French luxury houses. By virtue of technical feats achieved by its artisans combined with the vision of leading designers and artists of its time, Bernardaud porcelain is now regarded as more than simple dinnerware, excelling in the making of objects for everywhere in the home.
